Aspley East State School

Our education architecture project at Aspley required us to work with a template design that initially did not align with the site or meet the specific requirements of the school. However, through careful manipulation and adaptation, we successfully integrated the design into the existing infrastructure while ensuring compliance with all Department of Education and Training standards.

To optimise the building design and maximise the limited space available, we conducted a thorough analysis of the school's movement networks and their relationship to the existing structures. This meticulous approach allowed us to strategically place windows and design the roof, prioritising natural daylight and providing panoramic views of the playground and oval, all while minimising the impact of direct harsh sunlight.

One distinctive feature of our design is the inclusion of a striking courtyard roof structure. This eye-catching element not only acts as a focal point and landmark for the building but also serves as a marker for the entrances and creates a welcoming gathering space. By incorporating this unique design element, we have enhanced the overall identity of the school, creating a visually appealing environment that inspires both students and staff.

Furthermore, we have prioritised seamless connectivity between different functional areas by integrating a series of open learning areas along the pathway networks. This deliberate design choice fosters a strong visual connection and promotes an engaging and cohesive learning environment throughout the entire school campus.
